Construction has begun on a new 54,000 square-foot, six-story building at 1054 Simpson Street, that Urban Health Plan officials say will allow them to expand their provision of varied health services by 50 percent. Organization officials say they expect construction to be finished some time in 2013.
The center’s facilities will be equipped to handle up to 30,000 visits per year when the project is complete, they say. The project will create 110 permanent full-time health care related jobs, Fairchild added, while 100 jobs will be added during the construction phase. The company will continue emphasizing hiring residents of Hunts Point and Longwood, Fairchild added. The $55.5 million cost of the facility is being funded with money from an American Reinvestment and Recovery Act grant, along with city, state and private funding.
