The Janus Center for Youth in Crisis
provides intervention services for conflicted youth and their families, including Host Home
respite care for 11- to 17-year-olds not in DCF custody who are residents of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford or Trumbull. Services include a 24-hour hotline and wrap-around services of counseling, case management, mentoring, academic assistance and advocacy. The overarching goal of the Janus Center for Youth in Crisis is to divert young people from involvement with the juvenile justice system or from oversight by DCF.
Safe Places is a network of businesses and public locations that display the Safe Place logo on their premises. Any youth in trouble knows that he or she can enter a location bearing this sign and request help. The crisis is evaluated to identify and support the best option for the youth - going home, staying with a family member or friend or pursuing short term host home placement. Greater Bridgeport Safe Places include Bridgeport, Fairfield and Stratford Fire Departments, GBTA Buses, Public Libraries, community centers and shelter programs.
