High School Park is a neighborhood gem that has been improving the open space's ability to store stormwater before it rushes into the adjacent Tookany Creek just before it enters Philadelphia. The park boasts a new meadow project where a high school once sat. The urban fill and turfgrass once there did little to hold water on-site. Now native plants improve the soils and infiltration capacity. The park's next step is to install a second rain garden. Tour participants could see current practices while envisioning the coming rain garden and redesign.
