"TaleBlazer" "Academy for Health Careers"
At Emoti-Con 2015, Global Kids youth leaders from Academy for Health Careers won one of the coveted top 5 awards, Best Point of View, for their project "Squad Up: Finding Kathy," a geo-locative game that explores the life of a teen who must gather support for a friend in trouble, teaching players about the Convention on the Rights of the Child in the process.
From the game:
Your friend Kathy went from being an average excelling girl to a girl who's met rock bottom. Kathy's parents' divorce placed a heavy burden on her and she couldn't exactly cope with it. She needed to vent in another way, so she joined a gang of misfits and turned towards another path, a path that crucially impacted her life.
Looks like now she's in trouble... She needs her squad. You know that if she is surrounded by positive people again she can overcome this and continue to succeed.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child outlines the rights of all children internationally. Our game highlights two specific articles which are:
Article 19 You have the right to be protected from being hurt or badly treated.
Article 39 You have the right to help if you have been hurt, neglected, or badly treated.
These two show that when a child is in danger (from bullying or peer pressure), they have the right to be protected and not just be ignored.
