New Croton Reservoir

The Croton Reservoir is the main watershed for New York City and supplies 1billion of gallons of water to the residents daily through a syste of aqueducts. It is a result of ealry New Yorks steradily increasing size the engineers devised a way to supply the city with water by gravity alone. In the past to create the resevoir the state forced local dairy farmers to vacate their property. This created tensions between the citry and upstate residents. Presently the DEP is trying to maintain good relations with upstaters by creating agreements that benefit both the farmers and city. The Dep also presently is spending money to improve the water systems rather than letting them detiorate. In the future, they plan to improve the resevoir more and help supply the increasing size of the city.
