VCP MGP VOCs "Vapor Intrusion" brownfield

NYC Development Corp.
Site Description[1]
The site is the location of a former gas holder that operated between 1890 and 1918. The site is presently occupied by the East River Landing apartments. A Site Characterization was completed in 2004 and a Remedial Investigation in August 2006. Relatively little contamination was found at this site, and the source of the limited contamination seen has not been determined. A work plan for follow-up investigation has been approved, but field work has been delayed by access issues created by a major DEP sewer project. Work at this site is now being coordinated with work at the E. 111th Street Works Site (V00539).

Site Environmental Assessment
A Site Characterization was completed in 2004 and a Remedial Investigation in August 2006. Relatively little contamination was found at this site, and the source of the limited contamination seen has not been determined. Additional investigation work is ongoing, but has been delayed by permitting and access issues. Work at this site is not being coordinated with work at the E. 111th Street Works Site (V00539). No substantial impacts to the environment have been associated with this site to date.

Site Health Assessment
The site was a former manufactured gas holder. Manufactured gas plant waste has been identified in soil and groundwater at the site. Potential exposure to impacted soils is minimal since the contamination lies at depth. Exposure through groundwater is not likely since municipal water supplies New York City.
